SeaChange offers rich opportunities for young people to discover and explore the fascinating life within our watersheds and on our seashores.  Over 12,000 students from K-12 in the Greater Victoria School District have taken part in our Living Watersheds adventures.

For more information about programmes for your class, club, or group, please call Nikki at (250) 652-1662, or email seachange@shaw.ca.

Living Watersheds includes year round explorations of our local watersheds.  Programs provide exciting outdoor adventures to primary and middle schools that are integrated with curricula and community experiences.  Classroom and field outings combine hands-on learning with physical activities such as rowing, treasure hunts and beach games.  Teachings from traditions of local First Nations communities are also included.

Living Watersheds is an array of programs: Opening Minds with Water, EcoRowing and Seaquaria in the Classrooms.

Opening Minds with Water is a four-part study of diverse watersheds, and animal and plant life in our local community.  It includes a watershed model, study of freshwater invertebrates, a field study in a local stream and ocean explorations.

EcoRowing combines the challenges of rowing an open water scull with a scientific study of the Esquimalt Lagoon estuary, a study of the traditional ecological knowledge of the lagoon known as "the place of shallowing waters".

About 6,550 middle school students from the greater Victoria area have enjoyed the all day program each fall and spring for the last six years.

Seaquaria has established 30 saltwater aquaria in schools and community centres providing all students with the chance to see and observe the wide variety of colorful sea creatures found in our ocean.  Students themselves take care of these lively tanks and teach younger students about the life within them.
